In the early days of the Fluent Forever app, before we developed our Learning Reminders, we actually had some users tell us that they were using Duolingo’s notifications to remind them to use our app, which was hilarious and also brilliant. It was effective enough that it became a meme. What Duolingo gets right Goal setting and notificationsĭuolingo’s little owl, Duo, is a brilliantly engineered motivational tool. In this article, I’d like to go through four of the central issues in Duolingo, and what we’re doing at Fluent Forever to address this stuff.īut before we get there, I want to make a brief nod to what Duolingo does really well.
And if you really want to learn the fundamental building blocks, Babbel might be good options for you.Or if you’re interested in fluency, you might consider language-learning software, like Rosetta Stone, Fluenz, or Pimsular.If you’re planning on taking a trip to a Spanish-speaking country, and are primarily interested in conversational Spanish, instructional audio materials, such as Duolingo, might be a great choice for you.If you want a little more fluency, you might consider another method. If you’re interested in casually learning Spanish, say, as a tourist, then learning from tapes are a great choice. Instead, it means figuring out how fluent you’d realistically like to be. Deciding if you’ll be a casual learner or a serious language learner has nothing to do with aptitude or ability, or even how good of a student you are. Choose a program that suits your language-learning goals.
